The Backstory

The Spread

Females that have just finished mating in the flying, midair ritual return to the ground and then break off their own wings. How horrifying to consider, and equally symbolic.

She has forever lost the ability to fly but, ironically, has gained the ability to store sperm from that experience, which she will use for the rest of her life as a reproductive being. She will use that store to produce brood after brood for the next two to six years. And since she can lay up to 1,000 eggs a day…
