Humble beginnings

How did it start?

Environmental Specialists, Inc. started as an “all-purpose” pest control company in 1993, with everything from indoor residential pest control to termite prevention to commercial exterior sprays, as well as this crazy new idea of fire ant control.

In 1993, no one had ever heard of “fire ant control”. The horse farmers in Ocala only knew that fire ants were a nuisance and a threat and there was no getting rid of them.

It took owners Jim and Debbie Stine some hard convincing that their application service would work.

In fact, one of the very first customers (a well-known farm manager in Marion County) told Jim, “If this works, you’ll be in business. If not, you might as well pack up your bags.”, because that shrewd manager knew the power of word-of-mouth. In 1999, soon after the birth of their first son, Jim and Debbie made the decision to focus exclusively on the fire ant control service.

In 2019, FAS is entering another phase with the addition of Jim and Debbie’s nephew, Gary Moore. Gary has just retired after 30 years in the United States Army and is ready for the challenge of taking over the daily operations of the business.

We know he is going to be a huge asset and move this company even further ahead with new technologies and continued excellent customer service.
