How Do I Get Rid of Fire Ants in Horse Pastures?
Unwelcome guests got you wondering, “How do I get rid of fire ants in horse pastures?” Fire Ant Specialists has the answers you are looking for.
With more than thirty years in this industry, we partner with sister companies to help combat the red imported fire ant. This menace’s arrival in the 1930s started a battle that is nearly 100 years old.
You are not the first one to wonder what to do about these invaders in your pasture. But first, here’s what not to do.
Don’t Believe the Hype
Yes, going green and moving toward more sustainable living is wholly advisable. Doing lots of things yourself is beneficial and cost-effective. But when it comes to war with fire ants, don’t believe the hype about these DIY tactics:
- Grits – There’s a story floating around that this will expand within the ant’s body and make it explode after ingestion. Sadly, it is really just feeding them.
- Diatomaceous earth – In theory, this would be an excellent idea. Unfortunately, it never makes it to the interior of the mound, thereby not impacting the queen.
- Boiling water – You might take out some of those top layers, but again, it is not making it to the queen. The one you need to take out will be fine.
- Vinegar – Same basic issue as boiling water. The surface gets wrecked, so maybe they move a few feet over. The queen is untouched, and business as usual continues for them.
- Citrus peels – Those ants will avoid the mound if you cover it with peels. However, they will just move to a different location.
If you want to chase them around your pasture, choose any of the above methods.
Do Trust the Experts
With multiple decades of experience in this industry, Fire Ant Specialists is prepared to help you win the war for your horse pasture. We want to help you protect your animals from the pain and potentially deadly repercussions of a sting.
We have the ability to treat a very large space thanks to the fact that we work in conjunction with other companies. Our baits are specifically designed to make their way deep into the colony, where the queen will absolutely enjoy them.
Well, she will enjoy the bait while she’s eating it. Eventually, it will become apparent that she has been made sterile.
Your aim might be to kill the ants you see running around. Our aim is to take out the one that keeps repopulating all the ones running around.
