Protecting Horses from Fire Ants
Horses are such beautiful animals; they are certainly worthy of protection from fire ants. But how do you ensure your animals are safe when they’re out in the pasture—or even in the stalls? Ants like hay, after all.
The answer is to call Fire Ant Specialists. We’ve been taking care of these invasive critters since 1993. With more than 30 years of experience and the ability to cover 1,000 acres daily—thanks to our sister companies—we’re ready to help you.
Though we’re based in Ocala, we’re able to cover the entirety of the state. We hate those red imported fire ants as much as you do. Maybe not as much as your horses do.
Fire Ants & Horses Are Not Friends
There are lots of bugs that can truly annoy and trouble your horses. However, the red imported fire ant will bite and sting them. And if the horse isn’t in optimal health, they might even gang up on your animal and take its life.
Yes, ants can kill horses, cattle, and even people. Usually, that’s because the animal—or person—has an allergic reaction to the toxic venom injected with each sting. And since you never know who or what might be allergic, it’s better to avoid the stings altogether.
But how do you do that when you have an infestation?
You call Fire Ant Specialists. We’ll come out and give you a quote for treating the entire space. We want to go from one side to the other, because ants are mobile and will readily move a mound to avoid elimination.
Spot treating in that kind of situation is unwise, as the mounds can be 20 feet or more below the surface. And the tunnels can extend eight feet out. Full coverage of the pasture is necessary to ensure we’re able to set your land free from these invaders.
Timing and Effectiveness
Fire Ant Specialists has been in this business long enough to understand the most effective way to rid yourself of red imported fire ants. We use a specially formulated bait that targets the queen.
When she ingests our bait—which her workers deliver to her—she becomes sterile. Prior to her sterilization, she’s able to produce up to 1,000 eggs daily!
Our bait eliminates her reproductive capabilities, and then the workers die off and she starves. A worker ant’s life is very short, whereas the queen can live up to seven years. This is why it’s important to focus on eliminating her.
Most box store and home treatments only affect the worker ants near the surface. We go in deep and take her out.
